About
Scripts Aloud began in mid 2015. Diana Atkins moved to Manchester from London and wanted to find a group similar to the network she was involved with in London. After searching around, Diana found there was nothing quite like it; so posted a message out on Manchester Independent Theatre seeking expressions of interest.
Naturally, the post was inundated with responses. All varieties of creative people wanted to contribute to regular new script reading events. Hannah got in touch offering help in producing and the two of them have been managing Scripts Aloud ever since. With the help of the incredibly generous Lisa Connor at the Kings Arms - we now have over 100 professional actors on our database and a combined network of over 400 creatives in Manchester.

The Process |
1) We receive regular new writing submissions to manchesteradp@gmail.com
2) We send out new submissions to our network of script appraisers. 3) We select our scripts (usually four 15 minute pieces) to be produced on the last Monday of the month 4) Scripts are sent out to our Directors for them to give preferences and then we allocate accordingly. 5) Our (ever expanding) database of actors is sent out to the Directors for them to cast their piece. 6) Welcome emails are sent out to each team (the director, the writer and cast) 7) The Sunday before (last Sunday of the month) each team meet to rehearse and has three hours allocated rehearsal time. 8) Then Monday - it's SHOWTIME. And we get live audience feedback on the scripts performed. |
